Hastings in the UK has recently twinned with Hastings Sierra Leone. In recent years the country has been terrorised by civil war. In February 2007 a delegation of officials from Hastings and 1066 Country signed a new charter linking the two towns of Hastings. Hastings and Rye MP Michael Foster, Hastings Borough Council Leader Peter Pragnell and Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott were among the dignitaries to attend the ceremony in Sierra Leone.
